Wellard Yamaha Junior Development Team Updates

The Wellard Yamaha Junior Race Team is right in the middle of another great season with all riders doing extremely well in their respective divisions. Past and present riders have claimed seventeen State and National Championships and the team is into their fourth year of never missing a podium at an event they have attended. Wellard Yamaha riders are without doubt some of the fastest and most professional young racers in Western Australia and continue to lead the way forward in Motocross.

Kyle Webster is the team’s most senior rider and was the Australian 85cc Champion in 2008. In 2011 riding a YZF250 Kyle is battling out for the States most prized possession, the number one plate which comes with winning the 250cc Championship.

Currently sitting in third place with only a handful of points to first and second his fluent style and natural ability will see him fighting until the final flag drops.

Sixteen year old Kensington school girl Shelley Connor is in her last year with the team before moving up to the senior ranks next year.

Riding a YZ125cc in the boys division due to the unfortunate lack of girls in the sport she has been posting some very respectable results in what is seen as the toughest class in Junior MX.

A very talented Enduro rider who was second in the Junior Championship last year (against the boys) Shelley uses her Motocross racing to lift her intensity for Enduro’s

Youngest member of the team is nine year old Matt Fabry who is YZ85cc mounted. Having already captured a State Championship and achieving a top five in the 2010 Australian National titles on the smaller 65cc machine, Matt was drafted into the Wellard team this year to ride the bigger bike and learn the ropes.

Being the true racer he is Matt has taken to the 85cc machine like a duck to water and far exceeded the team’s expectations with some awesome rides so far. He currently sits in fifth place for the championship just nine point away from third.

The newly formed CLAAS Yamaha Senior Motocross Team made a stunning debut this year at the first Senior State round in Kalgoorlie. With YZF250 mounted Ashley Whisler and YZF450 rider Daniel Strickland the new kids on the MX block showing they meant business.

Ashley is now in his third year of senior racing and juggles an electrical apprenticeship with his hectic racing career. With two rounds in the bag of the extremely competitive Pro Lites class Ash sits in sixth place and if not for a crash and dislocating his shoulder in one race he would be higher in the standings.

With the next round due soon he will be looking to move up the leader board to contest for the podium positions.
