Day Five - race update and video

7 November 2014

ISDE Day Five brought a new trail but similar conditions to every other day. San Juan only receives good rainfall just two or three days per year and with this in mind you have to accept the rocky, dry dusty conditions.

With temperatures in the low 30's (Celsius) the penultimate day of the ISDE saw the riders heading North of San Juan with all tests being staged in limestone rock quarries.

Wellard riders Gary Sutherlin and Andrew Delong spearheaded the C2 division leaving on the first minute straight after the trophy teams. This has been a huge advantage all week for our riders as there is a five minute gap between trophy and club teams and it has allowed time for the chocking dust to clear a little.

Once again they battled it out for overall day honours which went to Gary by just 0.38 of a second. For the second day in a row both riders were separated by less than a second after a full days racing.

The Wellard riders securely hold down first and second respectively in the C2 division and barring the unknown should finish out the ISDE that way. Andrew did have a scare at the end of the day when an ignition issue had to be repaired in the final work period of the day.

With just fifteen minutes left, he stayed calm and got it repaired, but will need to go over it in the morning work period to ensure all is fine. This meant he was unable to change tyres but will do the rear in the morning work period before the Motocross test.

Even with the bad luck from earlier in the week Team USA riders have proven their speed in Argentina and managed to hold down first in the Junior Trophy, second in the Senior trophy, third in the Women's, first in C3 with Cory Buttrick, Wellard riders in C2 and Josh Night is second in C1. So all in all Argentina 2014 may be not as bad as it first seemed.

One more day will tell the story, so stay tuned.
